Crocodile Rock Cafe, Allentown Pa, Wednesday night June 27th, 2001. We came, we saw, They conquered. It was a long day and an even longer night, but well worth getting tired out over! The guys didn't come on till nearly 11:30 PM, but boy did they make up for the extended wait. By the time the show ended around 1:00 AM, we had been treated to 19 cuts. A couple from the Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer albums, a couple old (non-Hook) rock standards, and a bunch of the Dr. Hook classics that the fans had expected. There were several calls for Yodel that went unheeded, boo! One dedicated fan also strongly lobbied for Marie Lavaux, which too went unanswered. The inclusion of Oo Poo Pa Doo was enthusiastically embraced by many of the fans, even if quite unexpected. Billy Francis’s stepping forward to sing lead on "I Got Stoned" was a delight, and there were a couple of us in the audience who went bonkers at that moment. Not only did he sing, but he treated us to a little dance as well! A handful of the few, the proud, the crazy, stuck around to an ungodly hour (after 3 AM), and were treated to some great stories from Ray and Billy and the opportunity to mingle with the guys. Billy’s voice was the greatest, we felt like we were living in one of those spoken word song breaks from a classic Hook track, but in living Technicolor. Bill is every bit the southern gentleman that we had come to know from his posts and emails. When he kissed my wife Mary Kay's hand, we were both thrilled. While they signed autographs and posed for pictures for the fans, we looked on like doe-eyed pre-teen girls at a Back Street Boys concert. The stories that Ray told were great, we could have listened all night, but alas the guys needed to get back to the bus and relax. It was a night we won’t soon forget!!
